Property:Development:Noise
Summary
Inevitable that development is noisy. And nosy neighbours will complain. WCC's bylaws are: Monday to Saturday (Does not include Sunday). * 7.30 to 6pm construction noise * 6pm to 8pm reduced construction noise
From Standards I get: * https://www.standards.govt.nz/news-and-updates/construction-noise-know-the-limits/
- Monday-Sat 7.30am to 6pm:
- L10 (ie 10% of time): 75
- L95 (ie 95% of time): 60
- Monday-Friday 6pm to 8pm:
- L10 (ie 10% of time): 70
- L95 (ie 95% of time): 50
Compared to my noisiest tools: * https://forestry.com/products/ryobi-ry5020 – 110 dB, measured at 1m. * Ryboi 52cc brushcutter – 70 dB
Calculating attenuation:
- The rate of attenuation is approximately 6 dB as the distance doubles.
- Using calculator: https://www.omnicalculator.com/physics/distance-attenuation
- 110db:
- 60m: 75dB, i.e. chainsaw ok for 10% of time.
- 320m: 64dB, i.e. chainsaw ok for 95% of time.
- 70db:
- 1m < brush cutter ok 95% of time
Note the above is not taking into account attenuation given by vegetation between source and listener.
