## Notes ##
* Advantages:
  * Build specifically for the *exchange* of K-12 education-related information.
  * SIF 3.x allows for both brokered and direct communication between applications.
* Considerations: 
  * Domain specific (education) specific of an open standard (xml/json).
  * Can exchange data in XML or JSON
  * Case studies show significant dollar savings for schools and districts;
  * Required by many school districts
    * implemented by many SMS vendors and Zone Integration Servers (ZIS) 
  * Even mandated in some cases (eg: Oklahoma)
  * SIF 3.x no longer requires a broker (ZIS).
